Object Name Sling, Infant

Description Baby carrier made by Hmong artisan. Design uses red, white, green, yellow and royal blue woven cotton in spiral and triangle motifs created through applique and reverse applique techniques. 2.5" red border has mitered corners, solid black backing fabric. Carrier would be used to secure the baby to woman's back using additional straps.

Provenance Purchased by donor when she was on a committee to preserve the textiles the Hmong refugees were doing when they first came to the Des Moines, Iowa, area in the late 1970s-early 1980s.
