Description Cream-colored dress in silk gauze; monobosom silhouette. High neckline trimmed at edge in alternating pattern of 2 bugle beads (stacked one on top of the other) and row of three floral decorations comprised of a "pearl" bead surrounded by seed beads as petals. Sheer panel with horizontal tucks from neckline rounded to CF above bust. Remainder of bodice is lined. CF from shoulder to shoulder bording the lower edge of the sheer panel is an elaborate motif of floral and leaf patterns made of bugle beads, "pearls," and seed beeds on net with beaded fringe trimming at bottom. Long sheer sleeves with horizontal tucks; sleeve openings trimmed in same manner as neckline; short oversleeves with external pleats and panel of embroidery and beading in sprial and floral patterns on net. Pleated monobosom bodice. Pleated silk satin cummerbund at waist; decorated with vertical rows of clear beads at 4" intervals. Long bell-shaped skirt; 4 darts L & R from waist; lower half of skirt has horizontal tucks and one external pleat. Hem trimmed with decorative panel on net (embroidery and beading in pattern similar to that of oversleeve decoration). Below top skirt layer is attached silk satin petticoat; face of silk petticoat has a 19" flounce attached which matches the sheer dress fabric; back of petticoat has attached a 10" silk satin flounce. Dress back has a pleated overlay in V-shape to waist; sheer panel from neck with horizontal tucks. Two bows on back of cummerbund with tails trimmed with clear beads. No labels. Loose piece of net and beading stored with dress.
Provenance Belonged to the donor's grandmother, Cleone June Summers. Worn for October 19, 1910, wedding to Milton Dunlap in Charles City, Iowa.
