Object Name Ensemble
Date 1964
Description Woman's dress and jacket, made from fabric purchased in Japan; also a purse purchased in Japan at the same time. Gold on gold silk brocade.
(a) Dress: sleeveless; scoop neckline; natural waist; A-line skirt has gathers at front sides, pleat at center back hem. Piping at waist. Center back zipper ends 6" from neckline. Fully lined in gold silk.
(b) Jacket: long sleeves; hip length; peter pan collar; center front opening has plackets on either side but no means of closure. Fully lined in gold silk.
(c) Purse: clutch style; snap closure. Lined in pink moire with two interior pockets and accordian pleated stiff sides. Label: "Ori Dono, Made in Japan, Pure Silk"

Provenance Donor purchased fabric and purse in Kyoto, Japan, in April 1964.
Dress and jacket were made by a dressmaker in Ames, Iowa. Donor wore this ensemble with gold shoes, 2012.16.2a-b.
